Dr. Karma Tshering is a Member of the Bhutan for Life Board of Trustees, representing the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC), where he serves as the Managing Director. He holds a Ph.D. in Conservation and Development from the University of Sydney, Australia, and brings over 27 years of professional experience in environmental conservation and ecotourism across various national and international agencies.
A passionate and proactive conservationist, Dr. Karma began his career as the National Tiger Project Coordinator, leading Bhutan’s first-ever scientific tiger survey. He has been instrumental in advancing incentive-based conservation, transforming conventional forest and park management systems, and establishing nature recreation and ecotourism as integral components of Bhutan’s conservation strategy.
He also contributes internationally as a member of National Geographic, serving as an evaluator for tourism properties and sustainability initiatives. Dr. Karma hails from Lamgong Gewog, Paro Dzongkhag.
