Dasho Karma Tshering

Dasho Karma Tshering is the Chairperson of the Bhutan for Life Board of Trustees. He has been appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on 30th December 2022. He is also concurrently serving as the Cluster Secretary for the Economic Cluster. Prior to his current appointment, he last served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs from 11th March 2020 till 30th Dercember 2022. He also served as one of the Eminent Members of the National Council, Parliament of Bhutan, from 7th December 2015 until 10th March 2020.

Before his appointment in the National Council, he briefly served as the Director of the Department of Hydropower & Powers Systems under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA) from July until December 2015. He concurrently served as the Chairman of Bhutan Electricity Authority (BEA). Before that, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bhutan Electricity Authority from May 2010 to June 2012 and simultaneously as the Director of the Department of Renewable Energy under the MoEA from November 2011 until June 2015.

Dasho Karma Tshering holds a Masters Degree in Electric Power Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia and Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rajasthan in India. He has a Certificate in Management Course from Asian Institute of Management in Philippines. Among many professional courses, he participated in the training courses on Utility Regulation and Strategy at University of Florida in USA and Management of Hydropower Development in Sweden and South Africa.

He has worked with the Royal Government of Bhutan for close to 28 years. He worked in various capacities as an Engineer, Planner, Policy Maker, Electricity Regulator, an Administrator, a Member of Parliament and as a Government Secretary.
